Book a face to face appointment with a clinician within a week.

Please ask the parents to bring a urine sample to the appointment if they are able

Book a same day appointment if the child is reported to be very unwell e.g. high fever, shaking, vomiting, severe pain.

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) in Men

Face to Face Consultation

Book a same day face to face appointment in those who report to be unwell e.g. high fever, shaking, confusion, severe pain, vomiting.

Ask the patient if they are able to bring a urine sample to the appointment for the clinician.

Patients age OVER 65 years old

Still action request for mid-stream urine sample

This will NOT be dipped in the practice but sent off for analysis. The results will be back in approx 24 hours.

Still book a same day call for the clinician to speak to the patient.

Book a same day face to face appointment. Ask the patient to bring a urine sample to send for MSU.

NO

Have you tried over the counter pharmacy treatments?

YES

Send task to Duty clinician with brief note about symptoms and allergies so antibiotics can be considered and issued if felt necessary.

If patient has already been treated with antibiotics or has a recurrent urine infection they will need to bring a Midstream specimen urine (MSU) and book a telephone appointment to follow up with the result.

Community Pharmacy

Send all patients to pharmacy for advice and product purchase.

Patients age OVER 65 years old

Book a same day face-to-face appointment.

Ask all patients in this age group to bring a urine sample to their appointment to send for MSU.

Do NOT dip urine in this age group as it is unreliable.
