Doctors

Dr Amrit Ryatt
Lead GP
BSc. MB ChB (Manchester), MRCGP

Dr Ryatt qualified from the University of Manchester in 2002 and completed her GP training in the summer of 2009, after having spent 4 years on the psychiatric training rotation in Greater Manchester.

This has resulted in her showing a special interest in mental health.

Dr Ryatt has completed the theory training from the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health.

She was previously recruited to the BBC expert women’s programme and as such has appeared on various BBC shows e.g. BBC Breakfast and several radio programmes. She is involved in the supervision of FY2 training doctors.

She is the Clinical Director for our Primary Care Network.

Dr Sheeja Nair
Salaried GP
MBCHB BSc

Dr Nair is one of our salaried doctors. She studied in India and graduated from Nagpur University in 1994, then went on to join the surgery in 2010.

Dr.Nair fits the subcutaneous contraceptive implement.

She has completed a diploma of the faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health, allowing her to fit the subcutaneous implants.

She is also involved in the supervision of FY2 training doctors.

Dr Syed Hamid
Salaried GP

Dr Syed Fahad Hamid is one of our salaried GPs. He went to medical school in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, Pakistan and graduated from Peshawar University in 2003. He  completed a degree (MRCP) in Medicine which was followed by GP training. He finished his training  and degree (MRCGP) in General Practice in June 2023 and joined the surgery in October 2023.

Dr woods joined us in August 2020 as a newly qualified GP after completing her training with the practice.

She qualified from the University of Liverpool in 2015 and undertook her GP training in Lancashire.

She has an interest in sexual health and minor surgery. She runs regular surgeries for this.

Emma is involved with the supervision of FY2 training doctors.

She is also our joint palliative care lead.

Nurse Practitioners

Jenny Williams
Senior Advanced Nurse Practitioner

Jenny can see and treat patients in a very similar way to a GP, she can examine you and prescribe medication.

Appointments can be made with Jenny as you would with a GP.

Jenny qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1994 where she trained at Manchester Royal School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Since then she has gained an MSc in clinical Practice and now works as an Advanced Nurse Practioner.

She has a special interest in musculoskeletal problems and injuries and is qualified to administer joint injections.

She is the practice joint palliative care lead and also our Cancer Lead.

Kerry Byrne
Advanced Nurse Practitioner

Kerry joined the surgery in 2017 and currently sees patients in a similar way to the GP’s.

Kerry qualified as a registered general nurse in May 2000.

A large proportion of her career was spent working in Emergency departments and then in walk in centres.

She commenced her role at the surgery as a nurse practitioner and has since gained an MSC in Advanced clinical practice, graduating from UCLAN in 2021.

She has a special interest in safeguarding and is our Safeguarding Lead for Children.

Tracey Rodriguez
Nurse

Tracey qualified in 1985 and has been working as a Practice Nurse for the past 27 years.

She has qualifications in asthma, COPD, diabetes and a diploma in sexual and reproductive health.

Karen Slater
Nurse

Karen qualified in 1995 and has worked as a practice nurse for the past 12 years.

Karen has qualifications in Coronary Heart Disease, Asthma/COPD, Diabetes and Women’s Health.

Launa Henry
Nurse

Launa qualified from the University of Central Lancashire in 2011 and joined Sandy Lane in 2018, she previously worked on the coronary care unit for 7 years caring for patients with cardio vascular disease.

Launa is passionate about educating and supporting people to manage chronic health conditions.

Julie has worked in Healthcare for over 25 years and has gained a lot of experience as a HCA in general practice and secondary care.

She is always looking to further her knowledge and skills and attend all courses and study available.

Julie is interested in a healthy lifestyle and keeps herself fit and healthy by running, walking and cycling.

Katie is our first apprentice Healthcare Assistant and she started with Sandy Lane in 2021.

Practice Manager

Julie commenced her NHS career 30 years ago in Pharmacy as a dispensing technician, spending time working across retail, hospital and dispensing doctor pharmacy roles.  Then training and progressing to a deputy practice manager role.  In 2000 having completed her practice manager qualification she became practice manager in a practice locally and has held general practice management roles since then, joining the team at Sandy Lane Surgery in May 2023.  Her role is primarily Compliance Management and ensuring the practice fulfils the criteria required for GP Practice currently.

Jane Balchin
Finance Manager

Jane has worked at the practice since 1988.

She has previously been involved in fundholding and was Deputy Practice Manager for a number of years.

From 2010 – 2013 Jane was acting Practice Manager before officially accepting the Practice Manager role in 2013.

Jane now manages all financial aspects within the surgery.

Kelly has considerable customer service/ complaints experience and the first point of contact for patient concerns or complaints within the surgery.

She is also our Patient Participation Lead.

Hayley has recently been appointed as Sandy Lane’s Practice Manager.

She previously worked in the Education Sector.

Hayley will oversee the operational aspects within the Surgery.

She works as part of the reception and administration team.

Well-being Lead, Emily has recently joined the administration team but will also work in reception.

Reception

The reception team are the first point of contact at the practice, whether you call in or contact us by telephone; they support the clinicians and are able to answer many of the queries you may have.

They are fully trained in being able to signpost you to the right person for help and to keep all information confidential.

When booking an appointment please tell them a little about why you need to see a Doctor so they can book you in with the right person.

All practice staff are bound by the same strict rules of confidentiality as the doctors; if you wish to discuss matters in private please tell the receptionist.

Salman Yusuf

Salman is our Clinical Pharmacist. Salman graduated from University of Central Lancashire in 2013 and then spent a number of years working in community pharmacy.

Since 2018 Salman has been working in a primary care and joined Sandy Lane in 2019 after qualifying as Independent prescriber.

Salman now sees patients for diabetes reviews and medication reviews.

Mehnaz Juwale
Clinical Pharmacist

Clinical Pharmacist Mehnaz works to deliver better outcomes for patients by improving the understanding of their patients circumstances, needs and desired outcomes with regards to their medicines. Often treating patients with long-term conditions such as asthma, Clinical Pharmacists can give individual advice about how medicines work, carry out monitoring and checks, and talk about side effects, providing much needed reassurance and clinical advice to patients.

First Contact Physiotherapist

First Contact Physiotherapists use their expertise to triage, assess, diagnose and manage musculoskeletal problems and related conditions.

Early intervention from a physiotherapist can help to prevent chronic musculoskeletal issues and promote self-management, first contact physiotherapist.

Will is able to administer exercise & injection therapy and refer onto primary community and secondary health care services using his expert judgement.

Gill Mawson
Social Prescribing Link Worker

Gill is a Social Prescribing Link Worker and she can connect people to local community groups and agencies to help address the wider determinants of health such as debt, housing, isolation and other social issues.

Health and Wellbeing Coach

Roger is a Health and Wellbeing coach and provides personalised coaching sessions to help patients become active participants in looking after their own health by building skills, knowledge, and confidence to deal with long term conditions such as diabetes, smoking cessation and weight management.

Rachel is a Health and Wellbeing coach and provides personalised coaching sessions to help patients become active participants in looking after their own health by building skills, knowledge, and confidence to deal with long term conditions such as diabetes, smoking cessation and weight management.

Gill Mawson
Social prescriber

Gill is a social prescriber who works with patients on the wider social determinants of ill health focusing on what matters most to them through a personalised care approach.

Georgia Winder
Associate Psychology Practitioner (APP)

Georgia’s role is centred around promoting positive mental health and preventing mental health deterioration.

She offers short term psychologically informed intervention to anyone who may be struggling.

Rebecca Dodsworth
Clinical Pharmacist

Rebecca works within GP practices to carry out face to face and telephone consultations for structured medication reviews, reviews of medication of care home residents, answering medicine-related queries, and ensuring cost-effective and safe prescribing.

She works alongside other clinical pharmacists, technicians, and the wider PCN team to give the patient a holistic approach to their health care and to ensure that patient safety is a priority.

Paulene Lwason
Pharmacist Technician

Paulene’s role is to work alongside the clinical pharmacists within the practices to help maximise safe, cost-effective prescribing, to help patients get the best from their medicines and signposting to other services where appropriate.

She also liaises with other healthcare professionals within the local hospitals and outpatient clinics to ensure correct and safe transfer of medicines.

As part of the Primary Care Network she am involved with the Impact and Investment Fund work plan such as a sustainable NHS and providing high quality care by assisting with Structured Medication Reviews.

Stephen Bradley
Care Home Lead

Stephen is the the Care Home Lead providing an enhanced service to care homes, with the aim to take pressure of the GP practices and provide a consistent practitioner to residents with complex needs in care homes.

Within the role he provides a weekly ‘home round’ and will see residents who are acutely unwell, to support the care home to manage residents long term conditions and to treat residents within the home, thereby avoiding hospital admission where possible.

Karen Ramsden
Paramedic Practitioner

Karen joined Leyland PCN in November 2022. Prior to being a Paramedic she was a Health Care Assistant and worked with end of life patients and complex care children.

Her Paramedic Practitioner role at the PCN entails seeing patients in clinics at the surgeries, telephone triage, and some visits to housebound and care home patients.

As a Paramedic she can see all age ranges of patients and has completed a number of courses to increase her skill set, such as phlebotomy.

She is looking forward to progressing her skills and knowledge and working towards becoming an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner.


Community Midwives

Community Nurses

The community nursing team delivers skilled nursing care in people’s homes. They are in contact with the GPs and come into surgery on a regular basis. Their direct telephone is 01772 644669. There is an answer phone to leave messages if they are not available when you ring.


Health Visitors

The health visitors are part of the community health services and are all qualified nurses with special training and experience in child health. They are in regular contact with the GPs and come into surgery regularly.
