DR AMRIT RYATT

Lead GP - BSc. MB ChB (Manchester), MRCGP

Dr Ryatt qualified from the University of Manchester in 2002 and completed her GP training in the summer of 2009, after having spent 4 years on the psychiatric training rotation in Greater Manchester.This has resulted in her showing a special interest in mental health. Dr Ryatt has completed the theory training from the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health. She was previously recruited to the BBC expert women’s programme and as such has appeared on various BBC shows e.g. BBC Breakfast and several radio programmes. She is involved in the supervision of FY2 training doctors. She is the Clinical Director for our Primary Care Network.

DR SHEEJA NAIR

MBCHB BSc

Dr Nair is one of our salaried doctors. She studied in India and graduated from Nagpur University in 1994, then went on to join the surgery in 2010. Dr.Nair fits the subcutaneous contraceptive implement. She has completed a diploma of the faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health, allowing her to fit the subcutaneous implants. She is also involved in the supervision of FY2 training doctors.

DR ZAAKIRA MAHOMED

MBCHB MRCGP

Dr Mahomed qualified at Leeds University in 2010. She has completed a Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health, allowing her to fit coils (DFSRH & LocIUT). She is involved in medical education and has completed her training to become a GP Trainer. Update May 2021 - Dr Mahommed is currently on maternity leave and her anticipated return to work is May 2022. I am sure that you will join us in sending our best wishes.

DR SUJIVA SUNTHARALINGAM

Dr Sujiva Suntharalingam graduated from the University of Southampton and did her foundation training in North East London. She completed her GP training in Lancashire and has an interest in respiratory medicine. Dr Suntharalingam is qualified to carry out joint injections and minor surgery. She is our lead for adult safeguarding.

DR EMMA WOODS

MBChB, MRCGP

Dr Woods joined us in August 2020 as a newly qualified GP after completing her training with the practice. She qualified from the University of Liverpool in 2015 and undertook her GP training in Lancashire. She has an interest in sexual health and minor surgery and hopes to undertake further training to enable her to undertake a role in these areas in the future. Emma is involved with the supervision of FY2 training doctors. She is also our joint palliative care lead.

Nurse Practitioners

JENNY WILLIAMS

Senior Advanced Nurse Practitioner

Jenny can see and treat patients in a very similar way to a GP, she can examine you and prescribe medication. Appointments can be made with Jenny as you would with a GP. Jenny qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1994 where she trained at Manchester Royal School of Nursing and Midwifery. Since then she has gained an MSc in clinical Practice and now works as an Advanced Nurse Practioner. She has a special interest in musculoskeletal problems and injuries and is qualified to administer joint injections. She is the practice joint palliative care lead and also our Cancer Lead.

KERRY BYRNE

Advanced Nurse Practitioner

Kerry joined the surgery in 2017 and currently sees patients in a similar way to the GP's . Kerry qualified as a registered general nurse in May 2000. A large proportion of her career was spent working in Emergency departments and then in walk in centres. She commenced her role at the surgery as a nurse practitioner and has since gained an MSC in Advanced clinical practice, graduating from UCLAN in 2021. She has a special interest in safeguarding and is our Safeguarding Lead for Children.

TRACEY RODRIGUEZ

Tracey qualified in 1985 and has been working as a Practice Nurse for the past 27 years. She has qualifications in asthma, COPD, diabetes and a diploma in sexual and reproductive health.

KAREN SLATER

Karen qualified in 1995 and has worked as a practice nurse for the past 12 years. Karen has qualifications in Coronary Heart Disease, Asthma/COPD, Diabetes and Women's Health.

LOUISE MARTIN

Louise qualified as a nurse in 2009 and worked as an acute neurosurgical nurse for 8 years before becoming a practice nurse. She joined Sandy Lane in 2018. She is qualified in cervical cytology and immunisation and is currently working towards qualifications in the management of long term conditions.

LAUNA HENRY

Launa qualified from the University of Central Lancashire in 2011 and joined Sandy Lane in 2018, she previously worked on the coronary care unit for 7 years caring for patients with cardio vascular disease. Launa is passionate about educating and supporting people to manage chronic health conditions.

KATIE HOLMES

Katie qualified as an Adult Nurse in 2008. Since qualifying she has worked on an acute medical elderly ward and an intensive developmental therapy unit. After a short sabbatical she then undertook a number of courses for counselling skills to extend her knowledge. She began working at GP practices as a HCA in 2014 and gained the position at Sandy Lane Surgery in 2018. She has recently completed a return to nursing course and has joined the nursing team. She will be undertaking further training to develop her general practice nursing skills.

Colleen has worked as a Healthcare Assistant since 2017.

JULIE NEWTON

Julie has worked in Healthcare for over 25 years and has gained a lot of experience as a HCA in general practice and secondary care. She is always looking to further her knowledge and skills and attend all courses and study available. Julie is interested in a healthy lifestyle and keeps herself fit and healthy by running, walking and cycling.

Practice Manager

Jane has worked at the practice since 1988. She has previously been involved in fundholding and was Deputy Practice Manager for a number of years. From 2010 - 2013 Jane was acting Practice Manager before officially accepting the Practice Manager role in 2013. Jane manages all aspects of the business including financial management and organisational development.

DEBBIE SANDS

Deputy Practice Manager

Debbie has worked for the practice since 1990. She had previously involved in fund holding and was Office Manager for 5 years. Debbie was acting Deputy Practice Manager from 2010 - 2013 before officially accepting the role in 2013, she is also IG Management Lead and Data Quality Lead.

ALISON KEMP

Assistant to the Management Team & Patient Support Lead

Alison first started here as a receptionist many years ago and has worked her way up to her current position. She now assists the management team on a daily basis and deals with any patient related problems. Alison is the lead for our Patient Liaison Support Team and is one of our Cancer Champions.

Office Supervisor

Carol Joined Sandy Lane Surgery in November 2018 as our Office Supervisor. Carol oversees the reception area and staff.

Kelly has considerable customer service/ complaints experience and the first point of contact for patient concerns or complaints within the surgery. She is also our Patient Participation Lead

Reception

The reception team are the first point of contact at the practice, whether you call in or contact us by telephone. They support the clinicians and are able to answer many of the queries you may have. They are fully trained in being able to signpost you to the right person for help and to keep all information confidential. When booking an appointment please tell them a little about why you need to see a Doctor so they can book you in with the right person. All practice staff are bound by the same strict rules of confidentiality as the doctors. If you wish to discuss matters in private please tell the receptionist.

Salman is our Clinical Pharmacist. Salman graduated from University of Central Lancashire in 2013 and then spent a number of years working in community pharmacy. Since 2018 Salman has been working in a primary care and joined Sandy Lane in 2019 after qualifying as Independent prescriber. Salman now sees patients for diabetes reviews and medication reviews.

KATARZYNA OTTEWELL

Katarzyna is one of our clinical pharmacists. She completed her pharmacy degree in Poland in 2005 and joined Sandy Lane in 2021. She previously worked in community pharmacy for over 10 years and then moved to primary care where she has worked for over 5 years now.. She is qualified as an independent prescriber. She deals with medication queries, acute prescription requests and contacts patients to discuss and review medications.

MEHNAZ JUWALE

Clinical Pharmacist Mehnaz works to deliver better outcomes for patients by improving the understanding of their patients circumstances, needs and desired outcomes with regards to their medicines. Often treating patients with long-term conditions such as asthma, Clinical Pharmacists can give individual advice about how medicines work, carry out monitoring and checks, and talk about side effects, providing much needed reassurance and clinical advice to patients.

WILL MCDERMOTT

First Contact Physiotherapists use their expertise to triage, assess, diagnose and manage musculoskeletal problems and related conditions. Early intervention from a physiotherapist can help to prevent chronic musculoskeletal issues and promote self-management, first contact physiotherapist Will is able to administer exercise & injection therapy and refer onto primary community and secondary health care services using his expert judgement.

GILL CHARNOCK

Gill is a Social Prescribing Link Worker and she can connect people to local community groups and agencies to help address the wider determinants of health such as debt, housing, isolation and other social issues. Please speak to a member of the team if you would like to be referred

MARK ANDERSON

Mark is a Paramedic and he uses his enhanced clinical assessment and treatment skills to act as a first point of contact for patients with undiagnosed problems relating to minor illness or injury, such as chest pains and headaches. Mark can triage patients, undertake telephone and face-to-face appointments, and carry out home visits (including residential and nursing homes).

PAULENE WARD

Paulene is a Pharmacy Technician and can undertake patient-facing and supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use through shared decision-making, supporting medication reviews and reconciliation in settings such as care homes and synchronising medicines for patient transfers between care settings and linking with local community pharmacies. Working under the direction of Clinical Pharmacists, Paulene can lead system improvements to maximise safe, cost effective best practice in prescribing to improve the quality of patient care, including improved repeat prescribing and medicines optimisation.

SAM CROOK

Sam is a Care Coordinator and acts as a central point of contact to ensure appropriate support is made available to patients and their carers, while also providing support to staff to ensure accurate data collection and undertake audits and data validation for robust reporting and performance monitoring.

HOLLIE WINSTANLEY

Hollie is a Care Coordinator and acts as a central point of contact to ensure appropriate support is made available to patients and their carers, while also providing support to staff to ensure accurate data collection and undertake audits and data validation for robust reporting and performance monitoring.

ROGER BOARDMAN

Roger is a Health and Wellbeing coach and provides personalised coaching sessions to help patients become active participants in looking after their own health by building skills, knowledge, and confidence to deal with long term conditions such as diabetes, smoking cessation and weight management.

JADE HODGES

Jade is a Health and Wellbeing coach and provides personalised coaching sessions to help patients become active participants in looking after their own health by building skills, knowledge, and confidence to deal with long term conditions such as diabetes, smoking cessation and weight management.

LISA TYLER

Lisa is a population health management lead and works closely to the social prescribing link worker, but rather than taking in referrals the population health management lead looks to reach out to patients in the community who may be in need of support

Community Midwives

The surgery has a skilled team of community midwives. Clinics are held each week at the surgery offering antenatal care. Post natal care is also available in surgery.

Community Nurses

The community nursing team delivers skilled nursing care in people’s homes. They are in contact with the GPs and come into surgery on a regular basis. Their direct telephone is 01772 644669. There is an answer phone to leave messages if they are not available when you ring.

Health Visitors

The health visitors are part of the community health services and are all qualified nurses with special training and experience in child health. They are in regular contact with the GPs and come into surgery regularly.
