Medication advice / side effects
For medication advice: Direct patient to their pharmacy for advice. If their pharmacy are unable to give advice then complete a medicines management query to the clinical pharmacy team.
For suspected medication side effects: Triage the symptom/s reported and see relevant page.
Screen ALL suspected medication side effects for anaphylaxis
Medication for procedure
If a patient is requesting medication to help them undergo a scan or procedure (e.g. diazepam for dental procedure or sedative for MRI scan) direct the patient back to the clinician performing the scan/procedure to issue. This will not be issued by a GP or ANP.
Medication not available from Pharmacy
New medication: Send a task to the clinician who initiated the medication. If they are not working send task to duty clinician.
Existing medication: Send a medication management request to clinical pharmacy team.

Mouth Ulcer
Community Pharmacy or Face To Face Appointment
Send patients to pharmacy for advice and product purchase.
Book a green appointment if OTC products have not helped.
Muscle Pain
Musculoskeletal Specialist (over 16s only)
Book appointment with the Physiotherapist specialist, or signpost to self-referral option.
If the pain started after recent trauma advise to attend urgent care / A&E.
Care
If the patient is not coping with current pain levels and/or there are ‘medical’ causes for the pain or if they are under 16 years of age book an amber face to face appointment with a clinician.
